$1100 SKS !!!

I just got back from a pawn shop where I saw a chrome plated SKS.

The price tag was $1129

I'm shocked at the price
I'm amazed at the dealers audacity

Maybe I should be chroming rifles.

IIRC they're fairly rare ceremonial units. Not that that should matter any....

Where I work one our customer heard someone was looking for a gun and brought 2, the first was very nice and priced @300.00 and the 2nd one not so nice but had 250 rounds and priced @ 400.00 (325 for gun 75 for extra rounds). The pawn shop down the road had a Middle of the road one for 475.00 ..

We used to get those Siminov rifles for $250 all day long.If you wanted fancy you spent the exrta $20 and got the one with the laminate stock.
Theres one around here somewhere thats only been shot about 30 times, my wife said it was too front heavy for deer hunting.
Chinese SKS's went for about $180 but you had to watch them, some of them have pinned barrels and those are junk.
Not too hard to spot the junk ones.

That is correct. However it is impossible for us to judge whether this one is a real one or a replica.

Here is a description and photo of a Chinese "Honor Guard" SKS complete with certificate of authenticity from Norinco:

Apparently everything but the receiver, rear sight assembly, and from sight assembly is chromed. I can only assume the bayonet was chromed, but the sliding locking mechanism at the base of the bayonet was probably black. Even the butt plate, trigger, and safety lever is chrome plated. The wood has a high sheen because it is sealed with some sort of clear coat laminate or lacquer.

My old man has a REALLY nice m1 garand I doubt he's put 300 rounds through it, he said he paid $50 for it at a pawn shop in Seattle in the 60's, he's also got a gi 1911 (surplus) that he always told me (many years ago) if I ever needed to use it I was better off to throw it at the intruder then to try and shoot him with it. I took it camping 25 years ago or better and he was right. :)

For what those are selling for now, maybe you should take that 1911 to a good gunsmith and get 'er fixed up. Or is a lost cause?

I honestly think all it needs is a barrel, thats really the only thing I can think of that would make it shoot like that. His logic is prolly something along the lines of the it costing more to repair then he paid for it in the first place. It's basically inaccurate and unpredictable, it won't shoot consistently one way or the other. Hell I don't even know if he still has it I'll have to ask him, it's been at least 10 years since I've seen it.

Your pistol could have a variety of issues, but if it's just in need of a new barrel, it might be worth it to have it done. That would be a pretty sweet Father's Day gift, dont' you think? Of course, so would a new 1911. :coolbeer:
